About “The Lilies”
At the end of 2015 I was in Loukia Orfanou's mosaic studio. At the time she was working on the preparation of a personal exhibition with the title “The Lilies and other Minoan motives”. I was excited by her invitation to perform a small solo piano concert for the opening of the exhibition, and visited her studio in order to experience more closely the manner in which she sculpted her artistic concepts. Lilies are a subject of incomparable beauty and timeless attractive power, and Loukia drew me into her world through the process of creating her mosaics. This was a meeting full of inspiration, feelings and rich senses, and as a result my own 'musical lilies' turned up soon afterwards in a very spontaneous manner. They were of course premiered at the exhibition's opening (Palais, Hirsch Schwetzingen, Heidelberg, February 2016). Today, in the period of Covid19, I revisit this earlier experience via the recording presented here: from the many symbolisms which have accompanied the lily flower over the centuries, in this return I chose the one of rebirth.
